Why

Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman.

Brandeis wrote those words about bank trusts. They fit local government too. When records are hard to find, accountability fails. When meetings aren't recorded, memory fades. When officials don't answer, the public loses its only check.

What we publish

Investigations are document-driven. Each page shows the underlying records inline — you never have to leave the page to verify a claim. Every official we discuss is offered a chance to respond; when they decline, we say so.
